The ID badges are pieces of identification technology used by the humans on Earth and Terra Nova.

The devices are placed in front of the eye and are scanned to confirm the identity of the individual. Such badges were used to confirm identities of those travelling through the time portal at Hope Plaza. The personnel of Terra Nova use these badges which also allow for access to certain locations.
