The Ancestral Komodo Dragon is an ancestor of the modern day Komodo dragon. One stalks Curran in the episode "Proof". Taylor notes that they are cowards and will bite the victim before fleeing. Only when the victim is too weak to fight will the Komodo finish them off. They have a venomous bite like modern day Komodos.
They appear to be like modern day Komodos, only much larger and with a large frill around their neck that expands when they growl. It also has a ridge down its back.
Trivia[]
- The lizard's frill is similar to the modern frill-necked lizard, and also to the invented version of Dilophosaurus shown in the film Jurassic Park, though there is no evidence that the real Dilophosaurus had such a frill, and it was not described as having such a frill in the novel.
- The appearance of the lizard might possibly have been a reference to the 1960 film The Lost World, where a similar-looking creature made an appearance, as seen in this clip from the movie.
